CRAFT INSPIRATION #2

We love to write about interior design at custard and mustard craft, so our inspiration today is COLOURS ! Most parents will agree that providing their children with a wonderful living space in which they can thrive, learn and play is of paramount importance, which is why colours in a nursery is an awesome idea.  [Read more...] A child’s surroundings can have a huge impact on how they grow and develop, so parents should always try to make their children’s living spaces as comfortable and fun as possible within their means. I remember growing up for me was so much fun with plenty of pictures and bright colourful artwork up on my walls. Sleeping in a bed that looks like a pirate ship or a pink princess’ wagon, as one can imagine, would probably fill a child’s life with endless hours of joy. There are plenty of great wallpaper options, or if you don’t want to commit, what about wall stickers and murals? Colour play an important part, no matter whether your style is modern, countr

Practical ideas on how to make the most of a small nursery

When your nursery has limited space, keep in mind that less is more. Trying to cram in too much furniture can make the room impractical and create a claustrophobic environment. Here are some practical ideas for a small nursery. Think tall, not wide Make use of the height of the room, using tall rather than wide furniture. Slim, tall, one-door wardrobes are available, and some have shelves all the way up. For safety, secure tall furniture to the wall with a bracket or two. Since baby clothes are small, you can install another one or two hanging rails further down in the wardrobe. You can then hang up more clothes. Put shoe racks, storage boxes or a set of drawers at the bottom of the wardrobe to take advantage of the space. If you have space above the wardrobe, tall plastic drawers or baskets can be placed on top. Multifunctional furniture Multifunctional furniture can save space and money. Try changing units with drawers or shelves underneath or those with longer legs that

Twin Nursery Ideas!!!!!

Thinking about nursery themes for twins? Preparing your nursery for not one, but TWO newborn babies can prove to be an overwhelming task given the number of options you can find in baby furniture, crib bedding, and wall décor on the market today. One of the best ways to start on the design of your twin's room is to research dependable baby furniture and accessory brands you know before making any purchases (try @custardandmustardcraft #wink). Next, choose a furniture collection that uses the nursery space in the best way possible, paying close attention to windows and storage closets (we can help you with that). Once the main baby furniture is put in place, it's time to move on to the decorative aspect of your twins' nursery and incorporate your themed décor ideas! I loved looking through these gorgeous nurseries, decorated and arranged for two tiny occupants. A craft inspiration for custard&mustard craft (interior décor nursery design coming soon). Whether

The Dos and Don'ts of designing/setting up a Nursery

Designing the perfect nursery for your little one can be a fun and rewarding experience, but it can also seem a little daunting especially if you don't know where to begin. Feeling a little overwhelmed? Take a moment to arm yourself with these helpful nursery dos and don'ts, and you'll be ready to create your furniture with us in no time. #wink Nursery Do's: Do choose a specific style or theme - Although it's not absolutely necessary to limit yourself to a single concept, settling on a specific idea will help you to narrow your focus and create a more cohesive design. For instance, I settled for the French inspired nursery with the standard contemporary style and my girls love it, they hardly leave their room. Do identify a focal point -  Most nurseries are centered on the crib, but there are many other options to choose from. A large window or alcove or even a signature piece, such as an over-sized toy or a painted dresser, can also draw focus. Do choose furni

CRAFT INSPIRATION #1

This is our very first edition of #craftinspiration and I will be sharing my research on the concept of shared bedrooms for kids. Many families (like myself) don’t have the option of separate bedrooms for each child, but organizing a shared room for two siblings can be quite challenging. On the bright side, siblings who share rooms will share special and memorable bonding moments as they grow up together. So I am looking forward to creating a special shared space for my growing babies. Sharing a room also teaches valuable life lessons about being sensitive to others, being flexible, and accepting differences – sometimes a very neat and organized child has to share a room with a more “messy” sibling. So many great lessons are learnt in shared bedrooms before the harsh reality of college dorms and life with roommates sets in! Majority part of my life, I shared a room with my sister and though we had our differences (because she was messy...ooppps I didn't just say that here, lol) w

choosing nursery furniture

Having a baby is such an exciting time, but it is a long 9 months waiting for your little bundle of joy to arrive.  In that time however there is lots to prepare - baby names, baby groups, work and most importantly the nursery !  Looking for your dream nursery suddenly makes everything seem a lot more real.  I waited until the last possible minute before buying cot beds and changer for my twin girls (I wish I'd launched this blog/website before!), because there are lots of choices out there so a bit of preparation will hopefully make the decisions a bit easier! Firstly, there is the decision as to whether or not to buy a moses basket.  I did not buy one firstly because I felt a cot bed and a moses basket in the same space was going to cloak the nursery and would not have fitted well and I felt that my new born babies would outgrow it fast! Don't get me wrong, a moses basket is great as it is portable and can be used in your own bedroom during the night, and then dow

LOVE CHIC LIVING????

Love chic living??? then you would love my wallpaper upcycling idea with a twist. Let me put it out there, I am a fan of pinterest and love finding homes and interiors inspirations on there. At custard and mustard craft, that's where we get our #craftinspiration. Although, we are not into interior décor yet, I will always look out for great ideas on this topic and share because we aspire to go into interior décor in the near furture #watchthisspace lol. So today I want to show you a few of my favourite ideas and hopefully give you some inspiration for how you can use your favourite wallpaper in your nursery or home. First of all, wallpaper isn’t just for walls you know. A great way to add unique interest to your walls is to look out for some old drawers in different sizes, insert your favourite left over wallpaper and arrange on the wall for a quirky wall display or storage for your treasures. Great for a kid’s room! You can also (to any degree) add a small piece insid

Luxury Rocking Chairs

Luxury Rocking Chairs can make all the difference as a furniture in a Nursery. It can get your baby to sleep through the night from experience. My twin girls are 9months now and still wake up at least 2-3 times a night to feed (an issue I have been battling with from their birth). I recently researched and found that I could easily make them sleep through the night by rocking them to bed each time they wake. Having luxury rocking chairs in my nursery has certainly helped with the pain of having to get up in the night!  According to some experts they should no longer need a feed during the night and I have begun to use this as a source of comfort to get back to sleep. Also remember that once the struggle of waking up at night is over, a luxury rocking chair makes a lovely place to read your little one a story! So here are some tips I am currently trying out aside my rocking chair! 1) bedtime routine - bath, massage, story, milk - making this no longer than about 45 minu

Nursery Room Ideas

For first time Mums there is an ever increasing importance on the design of the nursery and getting it absolutely right.  New Mums look at no end of baby nursery ideas to try and get inspiration for their little ones room.    Perhaps it is the fact that when it comes to a baby, budgets do not seem to matter, every Mum and Dad wants the absolute best for their unborn child and therefore there is a sense of excitement having the freedom to create and decorate a room with no restraints! Pinterest is a great source of inspiration for nursery room ideas.  We have found some fantastic nursery ideas to suit a variety of tastes. For a modern nursery feel we love the use of the charcoal grey walls and modern grey cot sat back with the injection of bold, bright colours.  The brightly coloured blanket and cot mobile are really eye catching and are sure to excite your little one.  This nursery room idea is perfect for both boys and girls and works well in a small room.
